Santa Claus comes tomorrow!!!

Glory be to the heavens, it's time for college football.

The sights, sounds, smells... it all begins tomorrow. Technically, it began last night, but not for Texas.

And what's a blog post without a picture? (answer: a boring blog post)

From the last game I attended, Texas-OU in 2006. By my count, I'll be eating a Fletcher's corn dog in 36 days...

Forecast for Friday

This is the icon from accuweather regarding tomorrow's forecast out here. I sure hope that's a thermometer.

Austin Trip: Camp Longhorn

Since neither Erinn nor I ever went to summer camp, we jumped on the invitation to go out to Camp Longhorn with Jennifer.

After watching Jennifer and me do the "flying squirrel," Erinn refused, saying she saw sheer terror on Jennifer's face. Doesn't really look like terror to me.

Austin Trip: BBQ in Lockhart

While Austin might not be the best place to find superior barbecue, I do consider it the epicenter. You can drive an hour in any direction and find fantastic barbecue. You can go north to Mueller's or Vencil's in Taylor. If you go west, you'll hit Coopers in Llano. East is for sausage in Elgin.

Dad and I drove south to Lockhart. We first hit up Smitty's, which is the old Kreuz's Market.

Brisket, ribs, an onion slice, a pickle, a hunk of cheddar and of course pillowy soft white bread. And two iced teas.

No forks, no plates. You really don't need them.

After some good, but not great brisket, we drove to Kreuz's to try theirs while Smitty's was still on our palate.

We hadn't planned on a second lunch, which is why our portions are so small.

Hahaha, just kidding.

After the first bite at Kreuz's, it was pretty obvious that it's far superior to the sister's place at Smitty's.

Austin Trip: Dog Days of Summer

Callie got to spend a lot of time with Cousin Carlie and Uncle Cody when we visited Austin this past week. More Austin photos to come...

Birthday

I was going to apologize for Andrew's inappropriate posts, but then I realized that it would look rather hypocritical of me when I post my birthday pictures. I was in San Diego at a conference this year on my birthday. The teachers I was with took me to Lips to celebrate. The tagline on their website explains it well: "The Ultimate in Drag Dining."

Nearby South Pas

Some local businesses near us...

Some people start the day with coffee, while others start the day with a boilermaker or four. And to be honest, I'd be disappointed if the "Drinker's Hall of Fame" opened any later than 6 a.m.

Poor Me

Andrew made me join a kickball team with him and the above photo is all I have to show for the pick-up game last night. I wish I could say it happened sliding into home, but no. I kicked the ball and slipped running to first. Maybe I'll feel better when I get my t-shirt next week. Stay tuned because I'm sure there will be many more kickball photos in the coming weeks.

To do list when Erinn goes out of town

Dear Internet,

Erinn leaves town on Sunday for a conference. Here's my to-do list...

- prepare well balanced meals with at least two slices of bacon per meal
- watch all Rockys straight through (#4 at least twice - "If he dies, he dies!")
- shower (Wednesday)
- wash dishes
- buy paper plates, plastic forks and knives
- fish has a lot of fatty acids, avoid that. Anything with "fatty" in the name can't be good
- withdraw savings. Ask for it in coins and see if I swim in it like Scrooge McDuck does in "Duck Tales"
- buy a PS3 or Wii that can be returned before Erinn gets back
- Make bed on the morning Erinn returns

I'll try to post pictures from my week of solitude.
