Busy Saturday

Today was one of those days tailor made for Simon. We went to an exclusive, invite only concerts. It was kind of like those rogue SXSW afterparties that you read about where Spoon plays in some east Austin garage apartment. Wasn't quite like that, but it probably seemed that way for Simon.

Jelly Jar was the band... made up of Will's red-bearded brother Andy and his girlfriend Jessie. They played some sing-a-longs and brought out some puppet friends for all the kids sing with. Simon had a great time dancing and clapping and I learned that a bear can eat a pear and comb his hair all while in a chair.

Not quite front row seats. I won't let him get too close to the speakers because it'll ruin his hearing.

Jessie works the puppets while Andy works the guitar.

After a quick nap, both by Simon and myself, we headed over to Henry the Second's birthday.

Birthday boy and his giant cake. We were all a little jealous of that cake.

Henry's party, the finale

Final pictures. The playgroup, minus Azzy and Aidan.

Henry's party (pt. 2)

There was no "favorite" part of the day for Simon, but eating an ice cream cone was probably up at the top

Bouncy castle, padded walls.

Simon checks out the pool's plumbing situation. Probably the Fetzer valve is loose from the looks of things.

Henry H's 1st Birthday (pt. 1)

Today was Henry H's first birthday. His circus themed party was fantastically decorated by Lindsey.

Hey ladies, there's room for one more. Wait, there isn't. It's a one seater. Have your mom drop you off at the playground and I'll meet you there.

Simon and two Henrys play in the pool.

Muscle man Simon.

Birthday boy can have his cake and eat it too.

It's that time of year again...

Simon's second Hatch Chile season. Honestly, I don't get as geeked out when Fredricksburg peaches or Vidalia onions start hitting the grocery shelves, and I love peaches and onions. I don't know what it is about chile season, but I love it. Takes me back to Christmas, when the chiles were long out of season, but we'd go over to some family friends house and there wouldn't be a turkey for Christmas dinner, but red chile enchiladas. And margaritas. It'd be cold outside (maybe) but you'd still break a sweat.

Simon surveys the scene. What in the name of all this holy....?

I can has chile?

For three dollars more, HEB could've roasted the case for me. And deny me the pleasure of sitting outside when it's 100 degrees? I think not.

We're making a little bit of a leap to the finished product, but Erinn and I both agreed, this was a Top 5 burger. I pureed the chiles with garlic and grilled onion, added some jack and chopped chiles and onion for texture. The simplicity is what makes it awesome.

Poor Callie

Many of you may be wondering, "Do they still have that dog they loved so much?" Yes, we do and yes, we still love her so much.

graham cracker treasure

Here's a video of what Simon does when he gets a graham cracker. I have no idea why.

All the greats have their challenges

Plato, Edison, Einstein... all had to tackle the small challenges before they could get on inspirational classroom posters. For some, that small challenge is successfully flicking a booger out of the car window without it continually staying stuck to your finger. For others, that small challenge is making that last bit of toothpaste last "just another day." For Simon, that small challenge is taking a seat in a chair. On a chair. Whichever.

First, you have to examine what exactly is going on here. Is it a stool? Is it a step. This one can be converted to be both, only adding to the degree of difficulty.

Alright, it seems simple enough. Just climb on, right?

No. You'll just fall off. Maybe if you...

Turn around... and TA-DA... we're sitting (albeit that doesn't look very comfortable).
